Catheters and microcatheters with braiding and/ or coiling for minimally invasive application are a specialty of Creganna-Tactx Medical with locations in Ireland, USA and Singapore.
Braided tubing are usually used for applications for which a high torque, burst pressure resistance, pushability, steerability and kink restance is crucial.
On the contrary, coiled tubing are engineered to deliver the firmness needed for insertion and kink resistance while maintaining flexibility and pliability.
For the design of braided and coiled tubing a range of materials and features are available. Moreover, it is possible to include braiding as well as coiling in one tubing. In addition to this, braided tubing offers the possibility of having multi lumen. A higher torque can be achieved for instance by increasing the ppi which has a decreasing effect on the flexibility. A bigger diameter offers more stiffness and torque but influences negatively the wall thickness and flexibility. In addition to this, using a flat wire leads to a smaller wall thickness and a higher flexibility but less torque.
